Abstract Reliability has been used as a potential index to measure the performance of several real-life networks. Focus on a stochastic multimodal transport network (SMN), this paper evaluates its reliability and uses it as a basis to assess the impact of transit time. Simultaneously, this study can provide some management discussions and suggestions regarding the appropriate transit time to maintain reliability, general the SMN’s assessment of the situation, or warning of transit time that reliability drops significantly. To accomplish the research objectives, the SMN’s is defined as the probability to fulfill transportation demand under the time threshold and specific transit times. This study employs the lower and upper boundary points to evaluate the reliability and develops it to efficiently assess the impact of transit times on reliability. Through a numerical example, the proposed assessment algorithm is indicated, and its entity is proved.
