Abstract We consider that a unit repeats some jobs over again and intervals of the jobs have the same random distribution. Further, we propose some maintenance policies in which the unit is replaced at a periodic time KT (K = 1, 2, . . . ), cycle N (N = 1, 2, . . . ) or its failure. We apply the maintenance theory for replacement first and last to above model. For these models, we obtain the expected cost rates, and discuss analytically about optimal parameter K and number N which minimize the expected costs.
