Abstract This paper proposes a new GO method for reliability analysis of three-state nuclear power electrical systems. First, Type 26 operator is created to describe three-state electrical unit, and its GO operation formula is deduced. Then, the new GO method is expounded in detail, and its reliability analysis process is formulated. Finally, this new GO method is applied in reliability analysis of power structure for Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM). In order to verify the feasibility, advantage and reasonable of the new GO method, its analysis result compared with the analysis result of existing GO method for two-state nuclear power electrical systems. All in all, this study not only improves the theory of GO method and widens its application, but also provides guidance of reliability analysis for three-state electrical systems.
