Fatigue Reliability Analysis of Drive Axle Housing under the Bench Test Loading

Abstract The drive axle housing of a certain type of heavy vehicle was taken as the research object in this paper. Based on the finite element analysis method, the fatigue life and reliability analysis of the drive axle housing under the condition of bench test loading were carried out. The master S-N curve method based on the equivalent structural stress was used to evaluate the fatigue life of the weld seam of the drive axle housing. It is proved that the evaluation result is closer to the experimental result. The parametric modeling of the axle housing thickness was realized by means of piecewise shell element modeling. The influence of the dispersion of parameters on fatigue life, such as material parameters, load parameters and structural dimension parameters of the drive axle housing, was investigated through random sampling of fourteen parameters. The factors which have great sensitivity to fatigue life and the probability distribution function of fatigue life were obtained.
