Renewal Function of Weibull Distribution Using Gamma Distribution

Abstract In the analysis of optimal policies for reliability and maintenance models, we have to know the properties of renewal and hazard rate functions. However, it is quite difficult to compute explicitly a renewal function of Weibull distribution. This paper makes an attempt to obtain approximate renewal functions of Weibull distribution, using gamma distribution. When mean, variance, median and mode of both distributions are equal, we compare their hazard rate functions, and propose approximate renewal functions of Weibull distribution. Finally, we apply such results to two periodic replacement policies.
