Abstract The reliability level of product is formed when it is manufactured, so manufacturing process has a significant effect on the reliability of final product. A good product with high reliability may have unsatisfactory performance after it is produced. However, there is not a set of complete process reliability design method to guide process designers implementing process reliability design. Therefore, an effective process reliability design method is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an overview on process reliability studies at present is introduced. The current achievement is studied as well as the existing problem. Then the conception and connotation of process reliability are explained in detail. Eventually, a DMAOV closed-loop process reliability design method is presented. It includes five phases, i.e. definition, measurement, analysis, optimization and verification. The main task of each phase and the relationship between different phases are illustrated. For each phase, concrete application method is described and it is very feasible and efficient. So it has the characteristic of strong engineering applicability.
