Abstract We consider a optimal maintenance policy that the system is expected to be operating for a given interval. If the system fails within the interval then the system is repaired at the first completion of job cycles over a given time. We consider a loss cost per unit of time elapsed between a failure and replacement of the system. We discuss analytically about optimal interval which minimizes the expected cost. We give further numerical examples Further, we consider two extended models in which the system is replaced Nth job cycle or at the completion of job cycles whichever occurs (i) fast or (ii) last.
