Abstract | The aim of this paper is to show the comparison of the results of a standard FMECA, and the FMECA with the grey relation analysis, in a particular case study of an Italian boiler factory. The applied standard FMECA is based on the Risk Priority Number (RPN) method, where the Occurrence and Severity factors are calculated according to a fault tree analysis of the whole system. Then a grey relation theory is introduced to determine the risk priority of potential causes of fault. This paper wants to show the differences between these particular FMECA approaches. The study takes into account the particular means used by the factory in order to collect the failure and malfunction data of its boilers, that is the Call Center.
