Abstract This paper presents an analytical methodology for integrated performance and reliability analysis of a software application assembled using the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) paradigm. The methodology composes application performance and reliability in terms of the attributes of the individual services comprising the application within the context of its architectural characteristics. The salient features of the methodology include: (a) incorporation of interface failures to provide a realistic estimate of application reliability; and (ii) simultaneous consideration of performance and reliability attributes to account for the interplay between them. The potential of the methodology is illustrated using an example SOA of an Insurance System.
